Who are we?

When you enrol at Imperial, you automatically become a member of the union. This gives you free access to all of our services, events and activities.

We’re run by democratically elected Imperial students, who are supported by a full-time staff team, ensuring the student voice is represented and championed at all times.

We’re also an independent organisation from Imperial, meaning our policies and decisions are student-led and we can give constructive and impartial feedback and action to the University.

Find out more about us here.

Discover the Student Group Showcase at the Welcome Fair!

This year’s Welcome Fair will feature the return of the Student Group Showcase - bigger, better, and more vibrant than ever. It's the perfect opportunity to see the incredible range of talent, skills, and activities that student groups have to offer.

Whether you're new to campus or returning, you’ll be able to explore the wide variety of clubs and societies available and find the ones that spark your interest.

The Showcase will also include a new interactive element: get hands-on with fun activities and experience what different groups are all about.

It’s a great way to make connections, try something new, and start your university year with energy and enthusiasm.

Join a club or society

Not sure where to start when picking a club to join? We’ve got you!

We have over 340 clubs and societies to choose from, and they are a fantastic way to meet new people, learn new skills, or simply have fun! Whether you're interested in volunteering, competing against other universities in sport, or raising money for charity, you're bound to find something for you!

Don't miss our Welcome Fair, where all our amazing clubs and societies will be available to answer all your questions! These are 2 of the biggest days of the year, as we take over the South Ken campus.

Advice & support

Studying in a high-performance environment like Imperial doesn’t come without its challenges, and we’ll be here to help you every step of the way.

Our professional and independent Advice team are here for all Imperial students to support you through a range of academic and non-academic issues. There are also close to 100 wellbeing representatives, who are students just like you, across a range of faculties, departments and study types, that raise any wellbeing concerns to ICU and the university.

Make a change on campus

Can’t wait to get stuck in? We encourage all students to get involved and share their thoughts by voting for or running in our student elections!

You have the power to shape your learning experience, defend the interests of under-represented student communities, and ensure your voice is heard at the highest levels of decision making.

Autumn Elections are coming up soon, with our major annual elections taking place in March each year. Don’t miss your chance to stand up and make change, whether that be running for a position or casting your vote!

Communities

Beyond your Officer Trustees, academic and wellbeing representatives, we also have nine Liberation and Community Officers representing students from generally marginalised groups.

These representatives provide a safe space for students identifying with these cohorts and help build communities and visibility on campus. As well as being a support network for students part of these groups, they also organise campaigns and initiatives to tackle problems their members may face.

Check out the full list of officers here.

Give It a Go

Discover Clubs, Societies & Free Activities!

Starting university or returning to Imperial after the break is a great time to kickstart a new hobby or find your community - Give It a Go sessions are there to help you shape your experience with no strings attached!

You can to try out clubs and societies before committing to membership; letting you decide what suits you and your schedule best.

Many of our groups are running free taster sessions or intros to their activity so check out our Give It a Go calendar and chat to them at the Welcome Fair to find out when these are happening.

Give It a Go isn’t just for Welcome Week, look out for it throughout the year for access to lots of free activities!

Making Welcome Fair More Sustainable

This year, we're taking steps to make Welcome Fair more environmentally friendly.

We want to create an incredible event for our community while being kinder to the planet. Here are some of the measures we're introducing:

Reducing Single-Use Plastics
We are encouraging stallholders to avoid bringing single-use plastics to the Fair. Think reusable, recyclable, and long-lasting- small changes make a big difference.

Going Digital
From sign-ups to communications, we're prioritising digital-first approaches. It cuts down on paper waste and makes things quicker and easier for everyone.

Ethical Engagement
We're introducing new guidance to ensure that companies at Welcome Fair reflect the values of our student community. We're steering clear of stalls linked to unethical practises.

Freebies with Purpose
Everyone loves a good freebie, but we're encouraging stallholders to think sustainably- useful, ethical and eco-concious giveaways are the way forward.
